Purpose

KATM Zone 3 MapKATM serves math educators in Kansas regionally, and this space has been created to focus on the needs of members and non-members alike in the 13 county northeast region. The purpose of the Zone 3 blog is to give the educators of our zone a place to network and to create a learning community of sorts, where we can share ideas (both good and bad) and information to improve teaching and learning in all classrooms.

Two other uses for this space include a creating a web presence for both Zone 3 participants in KATM’s “The Young and the Rest of Us,” a mentoring program funded by a grant from the Kauffman Foundation, and members of the Northeast Kansas Association of Teachers of Mathematics (NEKATM), an established and active organization already serving math educators in this zone. We hope you’ll find this site will become one of your favorites - as fellow educators, we understand time is perhaps your most valuable resource, and it is our hope that you will find this site useful enough to spend some of yours here.

In the coming weeks, links, videos, powerpoints, lessons, announcements, contacts, and other helpful information (even including an occasional podcast!) will be shared. These resources will come from us and hopefully you as well. A blog offers the ability for readers to leave comments on each of the web pages and individual posts, and a professional network is best when everyone is sharing! Don’t let your learning stop here - pass anything you find onto your peers and invite them to visit our blog. The math educator community is a small one and we need everyone to make it as great as it can be!
