Growing your Mathematical Mindset with Number Talks

Number Talks are highly interactive, brief discussions lead by students about numbers and computation. Number Talks are not just for the K-2 elementary students. Students in grades 3-6 also benefit from structured discussions about computation including whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Even preservice and inservice teachers can grow their mathematical mindset by learning to facilitate Number Talks in their classrooms. At the end of this session, participants will:
-Identify strategies for facilitating Number Talks
-Participate in various levels of Number Talks various levels (10-frames, Rekenreks, computation strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions)
-Lead a Number Talk with a small group of peers
